How to compare roofing quotes beyond the bottom-line price
A practical checklist for comparing roofing scope, materials, warranties, cleanup, scheduling, and contractor details.

A useful comparison puts every quote on the same page: scope, materials, installation details, schedule, cleanup, payment terms, and warranty—not only the total.
Confirm the same work is being priced
Check whether removal, deck inspection, underlayment, ice and water protection, flashing, vents, edge metal, penetrations, disposal, and final cleanup appear in each scope.
Identify the exact materials
Look for manufacturer, product line, colour, accessory components, and installation specification. Phrases such as “premium shingles” are not enough for a direct comparison.
Review business and project details
Ask for written company information, insurance details, references relevant to your project, anticipated start window, expected duration, site protection, and who supervises the work.
Read payment and warranty terms
Understand deposit amount, progress payments, final-payment conditions, change-order handling, workmanship coverage, manufacturer coverage, transferability, and the process for raising a concern.
